Foam Presents: Satyrdagg
Jan 31 | 8pm | free
Satyrdagg is group of all-star players from the Burlington VT area, fronted and led by Bassist/Singer/Composer Mowgli Giannitti. Their sound is an eclectic fusion of grooves from the world over, yet cohesively lead by the through line of Mowgli’s writing - at once reminiscent of jazz, musical theater, neo-soul, and so much more. They deliver luscious 5-part vocal harmonies, tight horn arrangements, and soaring and virtuosic improvisation.
Songwriter and composer Mowgli Giannitti grew up in the shires of VT and studied music composition, jazz bass, and classical voice at bennington college. His travels post-college led him to further study in composition, and the political climate of our days led him to circles of activism, inspiring the central themes of social justice through Satyrdagg’s lyrics. After Mowgli’s years of roaming and a few years of total freelance in bands of all shapes and sizes - including jazz combos, orchestras, choirs, reggae bands, bluegrass groups, salsa bands, a capella groups, and north african/middle eastern fusion - Satyrdagg was founded.
The band is built on old friendships - some going back to childhood, and some built on the bustling freelance music scene of Burlington, VT. Current players can be found in a number of bands, including Zach Nugent’s Dead Set, All Night Boogie Band, The Reflexions, The Heavy Nettles, and more. Former members have gone on to play in groups such as Goose, or to teach music at institutions like Berklee, College of Music.
Satyrdagg’s debut Live EP dropped in fall of 2023, and members are currently eagerly tracking the final stages of the debut full length album, Satyrdagg, slated to drop in early summer ‘25.
