Parker Shper

Vermont-raised pianist, composer and producer Parker Shper creates music at the intersection of acoustic piano, ambient electronics and improvisation. Psychedelic soundscapes, minimalist tape-machine drones, analog synths and kaleidoscopic piano lines unfold into richly layered music full of harmony, rhythm and surprise.

Shper began playing piano by ear at age three and performing professionally by fourteen. After early experiences with the Vermont Youth Orchestra and Vermont All-State Jazz Orchestra, he studied jazz piano at McGill University in Montreal and later at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg, Sweden. Across acoustic and electric piano, synthesizers and electronic processing, he has developed an unmistakable musical voice that moves fluidly between composition and spontaneous exploration.

A longtime presence in the experimental indie and creative music scenes, Shper has performed and recorded with artists including Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire, Leif Vollebekk, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, Anaïs Mitchell, The Barr Brothers, Trey Anastasio, Little Scream, Susie Ibarra and many more. His work as a pianist, composer and producer can be heard across dozens of recordings, film soundtracks and commissioned projects.
