Mary Esther Carter is a raw, soulful vocalist whose music blends folk, blues, and trip-hop with a fearless experimental edge. Inspired by artists like Mahalia Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Cat Power, and Tom Waits, she released her debut EP Doula in 2019, followed by her full-length album DUST in 2023—praised by Seven Days as “gothic, gorgeous and vulnerable.” Her hypnotic, visceral performances have captivated audiences across the country, and her multidisciplinary background in dance, choreography, and acting has led her to collaborate with artists such as Francesca Harper, Miho Hatori, and Janet Biggs, performing everywhere from The New Museum to the United Nations.
